Reference : TNT71The origins of cocoa in Trinidad date back to the arrival of the French. After fierce fighting with the British, they withdrew from Grenada to the other Caribbean island, Trinidad (around 1783), and began cultivating Fine Flavour cocoa in the area.Around 100 years later, Tortuga Estate was founded by physician Louis Antoine Aimée de Verteuil. Today, the estate is still owned by the French-born family and run by Pablo de Verteuil. Fermentation and drying take place on the estate, then the cocoa is packed and exported, mainly to Europe.
